GLaDOS Help?

Postby IvySquirrel » Wed Mar 07, 2012 11:17 pm

Oh gosh. Okay, so for an upcoming cosplay (a humanized GLaDOS from Portal/Portal 2) I need a dress like Caroline's in my design and I'm trying to figure out what fabric to make it out of, because I'm making white armor out of Wonderflex and adding a shine to it as well. So the fabric has to match it, especially in the shine department.

I'm debating on whether or not PVC/Vinyl/fake patent leather type would be a good option (a la gogo dresses XD) but I've heard it's a terrible fabric to work with. Any suggestions?

PVC/vinyl fabric is a b*tch to work with... but then so are pretty much all shiny fabrics.

The thing with PVC is that it's so heavy, you have to use big needles and it's much more likely to jam up the machine.

If you do go with something thin and shiny, be sure to pin the bejeezus out of the thing before you start running it through the machine. And using a backing can make a world of difference if you can pull of the dress with it! Use interfacing if at all possible.
The family that cosplays together, laughs together. A lot.

Is it heavier than three layers of leather about a mm thick each? My poor sewing machine T.T It hated me. Only stalled once during the entire work time, though. It's a tough cookie.

The plasticy look is really important to me. I guess I'll keep searching around for a good place to get some, though, because my local fabric stores looked at me like I was absolutely crazy.
